Uwezo

Is education improving in East Africa? Uwezo carries out extensive literacy and numeracy assessments across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania every year with the aim of answering this question. They use the data they gather to help parents and community members to influence policy change in education. So far the widely distributed results have provoked discussions at all levels about the quality of education in the region.

Sara Ruto, Manager at Uwezo East Africa, says:

If you want to bring about change and demand accountability, people must understand the information that you are passing on. Numbers can be very dry but when they are turned into a story they start to mean something. Then the data begins to make sense.
