According to Kenya-based NGO Aidspan, those countries receiving Global Fund money must track its progress in order to better fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

Aidspan both tracks and monitors the impact of spending by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Acting as an independent watchdog of The Global Fund – a leading financial institution supporting health-related programs around the world relating to its three target diseases – is a challenging but vital role. Aidspan requires highly detailed data about the Global Fund’s disbursements, activities and impact worldwide, which it analyses with a view to supporting improved effectiveness.

Angela Kageni, Senior Programme Officer at Aidspan says:

To be able to identify progress and analyse performance, you need to know what money is coming in and how that money is being used. If we can help make the activities of the Global Fund even 1% more effective, then we will have shown the benefits of improved aid transparency.
