US announces intention to launch an aid transparency initiative

The US strategy for meeting the MDGs was announced on Friday and includes some welcome references to the need for US aid flows to be transparent. aidinfo urges the US to ensure that they collaborate with the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) to ensure that information is provided in a standardised and accessible way.

There was a packed room yesterday for a seminar convened by the Bretton Woods Project aimed at putting together a coherent civil society response to the financial crisis.

The morning session was taken up by a series of informative presentations on aspects of the financial system and their role in the crisis.

On 2nd September the High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness, will begin in Accra, Ghana which will bring together ministers from over 100 countries, heads of bilateral donor organisations, multilateral development agencies and civil society organisations to review the progress made on the Paris Declaration signed in March 2005 and make plans for continuing action on aid effectiveness.
